Scale applications

You may want to scale all or some applications because of the Mini's low resolution.
Here's how you scale down the System Preferences, since these windows can't be resized:

defaults write com.apple.SystemPreferences AppleDisplayScaleFactor 0.8

If you'd like to scale all applications, use this command:

defaults write NSGlobalDomain AppleDisplayScaleFactor 0.8

You can do the same for Google Earth:

defaults write com.google.GoogleEarthPlus AppleDisplayScaleFactor .78

Other ways to save monitor real-estate

PresentYourApps lets you hide the menu bar and dock per application.

In Safari, choose View -> Hide Bookmarks Bar.

About this Mac shows an unknown processor. Which is kinda annoying.
Download and install this software to get rid of the problem.

Save diskspace and speed up the Mini

Run Xslimmer in Genie-mode. It will slim down your apps and make them more responsive. I shaved off about 850MB of a minimal OS X install.

If you're using Safari 4, the disk space will be slowly eaten away by webpage preview images. Go to the menu -> Safari -> Reset Safari, then tick off "Remove all webpage preview images".
